We are locals. We know this city. We checked, made sure, these selected hotels and residences will give you great service for your money.
The Rennes Symposium Local Committee is happy to provide you with this “Accommodation Memo”.
Hassle free, straightforward, comfortable, affordable, conveniently situated accommodations are a key element of any successful symposium.
We have made all efforts to offer you a wide range of possible hotels and residences in order to cover all types of needs and expectations.
You’ll found below two categories of accommodations for our July symposium in Rennes.
1/ The accommodations we have negotiated for you.
Prices, “all included” packages, best locations, sometimes a combination of the three, we have a number of rooms under the ICTM Music and Minorities label reserved in hotels and residences where we think you would found comfortable for a very reasonable price.
2/ Hotels for which we do not have specifically a “special deal”, but that we have selected for their quality and situation.
All in all, we hope we have covered all bases, all cases, from individual room in a budget residence, to an apartment style room for a small family, an international high standard room to the heart of the old city traditional renovated family run hotel. If you hate buffet breakfast and want to make your own every morning, we have it, if you do not want to think about it and just dream to sit down and being served, we have it too!
Also, consider that all the recommendations we make are based on accommodations we have actually personally visited and checked for you.
And of course, we have met the people; they all are speaking English and in some cases 2 or 3 other languages. There is no accommodations we offer here farther away than 10 to 12 minutes door to door, from your hotel to the University.
Unlike many places, Rennes is a big town in a human size city.
No taxi needed, no complicated buses or underground combinations to move around, and even less any car rental needed (we strongly discouraged you to rent a car!).
Everything will be safely and quickly accessible by foot or by tube. Rennes, today’s capital of Brittany is a friendly, vibrant, historical and modern city.
Hopefully our program will allow you to step out of your hotel and explore all the many resources of this town, from the medieval district, to the Parliament of Brittany, from the great food to the quietness of its famous gardens, from the music to the very soul of this part of Brittany for it is true that Breizh ( "Brittany" in Breton language) is a living example of an incredible diversity in a living unity. Rennes is just one of its many faces and certainly not the only one. As the expression goes in Breton language when trying to describe Brittany's famous diversity:
"Kant bro, kant giz, kant parez, kant iliz!"
(Hundreds of counties, hundreds of fashions, hundreds of parishes, hundreds of churches!)
We of course can advise you, on request, about the + and – of each formulas or options we are listing here.
Just ask, and we’ll let you know what we think. The Local Committee is not in the hotel business, we have no special interest except for giving you the best advice as we want this symposium to be a success at all level, starting with a convenient, hassle-free accomodation. Just like you, we are international travelers!

At the exit of Rennes train station, a few minutes away from the heart of the city and the historic center, here is a great choice.
The aparthotel benefits from a very practical location; you can use public transportation very easily and take advantage of the many shops.
The apartements are fully-equipped, furnished, and fitted-out. They include: a living room (with convertible sofa, double bed or twin beds), a television, an office area, a fully-equipped kitchenette (hotplate, refrigerator, microwave, dishes...), and bathroom.

Residence situiated 700 m from the University and the tube station (5 min walk).
The suites are fully-equipped, furnished, and fitted-out. They include: a living room (with convertible sofa, double bed or twin beds), a television in each room, an office area, a fully-equipped kitchenette (hotplate, refrigerator, microwave, and dishes), and bathroom.

HOTEL DES LICES
In the heart of the old city, in the highest part of the town, here is a fully renovated traditional, independent hotel, where you will be very warmly welcome by a dedicated staff.
On Saturday mornings, just by magic, the largest fresh food open market in Brittanyis taking over the whole medieval district, used in the middle age by knights to show their valor in combat training, in fact the ancient tournament field (named "Lices" in French, hence the Hotel's denomination. Yes, we know that the word "hotel" associated with "lices" might not be too engaging in English, but trust our experience, nothing to fear in this one!).
This district of the town is full of typical, very well preserved wood houses, mainly from the 15 th century. Restaurants, pubs, café, bakeries, shops, everything you can be tempted with is around, at its best. A couple of tube stations are minutes away, 3 to 5 minutes later you are at the University, yet the whole town is all yours…by foot. Hard to beat.
For all these strategic reasons, we have negotiated an “all included” formula with the owner of Hotel des Lices, where we have about 20 rooms reserved for our symposium participants:

Hotel Nemours,
The Mercure Centre-Gare. The classical international 4**** hotel, next to the railways station.
The Novotel 4****, in one of the main avenue of the city leading to the station, next to the Museum of Brittany, is certainly a great choice.
The Hotel Mercure-Rennes-Centre-Parlement
Closer to the heart of the old city than the two previous, yet not really next to the Parliament of Brittany despite its name, here is another good standard choice in Rennes. No surprise there.
